Ink and watercolors on this smooth paper of some kind.

Done for Sketchfest #45 (December 2013) but the scans were terrible until May, when I borrowed a better one.  (You can see the bad scan at Sketchfest: http://www.ellenmilliongraphics.com/sketchfest/sketchfestart.php?id=13267.)

Submitted it for a comment by a Real Live Art Director on twitter (more out of curiosity than anything; I knew it was just a rough thing), and got back this feedback: be sure the underlying drawing is good.

Fair enough. Especially since the perspective is particularly off, but not purposefully/to good effect. And the shading.

For Sketchfest #40, prompt "These Troll Hands".

Soft graphite and watercolor on some inexpensive cold press or other, 6.5 x 8.5 inches. I really am starting to use/need bigger paper… That’s one of the scary things for me (too big too free too loose!) so good to see me pushing edges. I think I should use some opaque color to layer clay over his/her fingers but haven’t/not sure quite how…

the Gnome Gourmand ACEO

Ink, watercolor, and watercolor pencils on watercolor ACEO blank. (Might be Arches paper, might be Strathmore). Followed, as I keep forgetting, by a terrible scanner that has no idea about yellows. Or blues. **sigh!**

Not thrilled with this–should he have some of his hair visible? How could I better the lights? That really is a creamy almost-yellow tablecloth… I do not know how to draw/paint napkin rings yet…. Much to learn! Finished? Maybe. As far as I can work with it? I think so. (I just added more watercolor pencil work, some of which stayed dry. I tried to deepen the shadows. PLEASE, all comments, critiques, suggestions are WELCOME!)

Done for the prompt Gnome in gourmet restaurant at Sketchfest 38. For sale over there.

“Tsunami” is the fifth in a series of various weatherwomen. (“Snowstorm” is the first)

Painted with Winsor and Newton watercolors and iridescent medium on an Arches hotpress ACEO blank from Ellen Million Graphics.

Watercolors (some are iridescent, but that doesn’t show in the scan) on Bristol paper. I am in love with the colors in the original, although I didn’t realize what I’d done with her hands until too late.

My son says this is upside-down. What do you think?

Learned something about my scanner, too: dark things like this scan quite nicely.

Prints through deviantArt at the moment; more likely. Small ones. Original going to a friend.

For Sketchfest #32: Prompt: Swamp “mer”maid from Anke Wehner

Crayola watercolor on smooth Canson sketchpaper. I know, I know! Thus the sketch! part. 🙂 … oh, and then photographed under bad fluorescent lighting and minimally adjusted in Photoshop. Could that be any worse?? Muses, I tell ya.

I hope I can find time to do this on some real water color paper with somewhat better paints. It’s about 6 x 6.5 inches I think. References are Vermont swamps and typical inhabitants. More or less.
