I did make this (Little Mouse, Big Habit)

posted in: Art, Shameless Commerce, Sketches | 0

…before Sketchfest. And you probably already saw it. But hey.  Even small rodents can have obsessions. Perhaps this one is working towards a Big Year!

Graphite on smooth piccadilly paper, about 4″ x 7 ” (I didn’t measure it).

I actually scanned this and tweaked it a bit but it was the GodAwful Scanner Of Doom, so …

Insanely optimistic as well, I put it on Stuff at metasilk prints plus at deviantArt, at metasilk at RedBubble, Critters with Gear Zazzle, and Critters with Gear CafePress. Not society6, though, I guess because I am thinking that’s for watercolors. (Like redbuble is sketches maybe with a touch of color.)

If you notice something looks odd on one of those items, do please tell me so I can fix it! It’s entirely likely…

$1307 to go for my sister’s art / science / climate change / exhibit / good-in-the-world project

Can you pledge a little bit? I can’t tell you about the $1000 backer yet (I wish I could!) but Bill McKibben called the project “fantastic” on twitter. Does that help?

If not, enjoy the art you see anyway! Here’s the link directly: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1112121841/we-are-all-in-this-together

The Blue Jay’s Friend (ACEO)

Y’all already saw this if you’re following me elsewhere, but hey.

Watercolor pencils and graphite on Arches hot press paper. Finally “finished” .. though still had to fight with the scanner.

Small prints, magnets, that kinda thing are available at deviantArt. Maybe more places later. Maybe a “Charming Pumpkins” Cafepress and/or Zazzle shop with this and Jack-o-the-Moon and Zucchini Moon and … I dunno, maybe the witchy ladybugs. Should I dig up some useful time to do this in.

The original would be for sale too if I could figure out where I left it. I thought I’d put it in the ACEO card holder … but … no…. Huh.

Two Juncos ACEO ATC

My stepmom noted she didn’t have any of my art on her walls. I only had ACEO ATC-sized Bristol paper, graphite, and water colored pencils with me. But she had a recently-filled bird feeder.

This was a good combination.

I did three cards for her: this one, a Northern cardinal, and a gray squirrel.

(I have learned, however, that I prefer both sketch paper and cold press water color paper.) (And Dad’s scanner is about as useful as mine.)

For Sketchfest #32: Prompt: Swamp “mer”maid from Anke Wehner

Crayola watercolor on smooth Canson sketchpaper. I know, I know! Thus the sketch! part. 🙂 … oh, and then photographed under bad fluorescent lighting and minimally adjusted in Photoshop. Could that be any worse?? Muses, I tell ya.

I hope I can find time to do this on some real water color paper with somewhat better paints. It’s about 6 x 6.5 inches I think. References are Vermont swamps and typical inhabitants. More or less.

Critters Lugging Stuff Around 1: Birthday Puffin

OK, I suppose this is part of the Critters series. And it’s certainly before the Mouse & the Wren, but I guess that’ll make the original idea Critter #0? Well, hard to say, since I’ve not actually finished that piece.

Oh, this one? This was a quick happy illustration with Crayola colored pencil on ordinary printer paper, mounted to green construction paper (I think) for my sister’s birthday card last year. Why yes, it was a little bit last minute and I was babysitting, why do you ask? **chuckle**

It’s probably not worth trying to print it on anything really since my photo of it was dim and the scan was overexposed, and I have yet to figure out how to balance those two things. The paper is either too gray to the sky and light blue shading vanishes. I think I need more clue on digitizing… Oh well!

Star Geese (WIP)

posted in: Art | 0

I did a fast pencil-and-paint sketch on totally the wrong paper for Sketchfest today. (Thank goodness for work breaks!). You can click the pic to see it bigger. The prompt was “it’s full of stars” and this is so much a WIP that it doesn’t even really express what I was seeing in my head. I don’t even know how to do what’s in my head. Nor do I really know where the geese go on the paper. But it tickles my brain!

I’m happy with the wings. The advantage of working in a Bird museum with a small library is lots of handy reference material. My bird-body clue is coming along nicely. Anyway, I hope to make something based on this. In meantime, a sketch, and happy to have it! More random nattering about how it’s made over at Sketchfest proper, if you’re curious.

“Wren Voyage”

Another colored pencil on mat board, 6cm x 6cm.

Part of the once-hypothetical “Critters Lugging Stuff Around” series.

Possibly not quite done, now I see it larger onscreen after the scan. Something about the bottom of the suitcase and the contrast by the suitcase handle.

Hmm. Well, if I update this, I’ll note so here. If I remember!

On stuff in my deviantArt prints so far. Maybe more later.
